Ronaldo makes his return. In another comeback attempt, Ronaldo took to the filed on Wednesday with Corinthians' in their Brazilian Cup match against Itumbiara.
He made his appearance at the 68-minute mark, taking to the field amidst a loud round of cheering from the fans at the Juscelino Kubitschek Stadium.
It was his first official match since he had surgery on his knee from an injury that occurred while he was playing with AC Milan last February.
Corinthians had a 2-0 lead when Ronaldo entered the game, a score that ended up being the final result, which meant Corinthians now moves on to the second round of the Brazilian Cup.
While he didn’t have a real impact on the outcome, he did get several touches and did get free once or twice, but didn’t receive the ball to make a play.
He did have a final chance in injury time, but the referee called a foul on him when he tried to get past a defender inside the area.
Ronaldo has fought back from two previous knee injuries in his career, but both of those were over eight years ago. Since those injuries he was a key member of the Brazilian World Cup winning team in 2002.
He captured the tournament’s top scorer title with eight goals, which included a pair of goals in the final vs. Germany.
Ronaldo holds the record for the most goals scored in the World Cup, with 15.
